Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Bed Bug?
A Bed Bug is a small parasite that feeds on the blood of humans and animals. Bed Bugs are most often found in the folds and crevices of mattresses, bedding and carpets. They can also be found inside clothing, purses, furniture and other dark crevices. Because Bed Bugs can survive for more than a year without feeding, they can be extremely difficult to get rid of.
What does a Bed Bug look like?
Adult bed bugs are straw-colored to reddish brown, wingless insects. Prior to feeding, they are approximately 1/4" - 3/8” long and nearly as flat as a piece of paper. Once they have fed they become bloated and dark red.
What Do Bed Bug Bites Look Like?
Generally bed bug bites look like typical mosquito or flea bites, which are red, raised bumps. While feeding, they inject a tiny amount of their saliva into the skin. Repeated exposures to bed bug bites during a period of several weeks or more causes people to become sensitized to the saliva of these bugs; additional bites may then result in mild to intense allergic responses.
How do I know if I have Bed Bugs?
Bed Bugs will usually leave red, itchy bite marks on the skin of their victims. They can sometimes be spotted hiding in the crevices of items that have been infested, such as mattresses, pillows or blankets. They will often leave black or dark red spots on such items.
Where do Bed Bugs come from?
Bed Bugs are transferred through contact with people, animals or objects that have already been infested or exposed to other infested items.
Do Bed Bugs carry disease?
Although Bed Bugs can harbor pathogens in their bodies, there are currently no documented cases of Bed Bugs trasmitting any diseases to humans at this time. However, lab tests have found that Bed Bugs can carry the causative agents for antrax, plague, typhus, tularemia, yellow fever and numerous other blood infesting disease organisms.
Currently, their medical significance is mainly limited to the itching and inflammation from their bites. This is caused by an allergic reaction to the saliva excreted into the wound while they feed.
What do I do if I find Bed Bugs?
Bed Bug infestations can quickly multiply and become extremely difficult to get rid of. Once you notice an infestation, you need to act quickly.
- For Most Infestations: Simply spray the infested items with PuraCleenRx™ Bed Bug Spray. This will quickly eliminate any live Bed Bugs.
- For Severe Infestations: It is recommended that you use a combination of the PuraCleenRx™ Bed Bug Spray and Diatomaceous Earth. Spray the infested items with the Bed Bug Spray and then sprinkle the Diatomaceous Earth onto the items.
- For Mattress Infestations: Follow the instructions for Severe Infestation and then put on the PuraCleenRx™ Disposable Mattress Cover on your bed. This will provide a barrier between you and the bed bugs, while ensuring that they will be unable to escape into your environment.
